These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of IELTS Writing Task 1 ("the Service"), operated by Gavin Reid, sole trader, in the United Kingdom. By creating an account or paying for access, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
If you have any questions, contact us at hello@ielts-writing-task-1.com.
The Service
IELTS Writing Task 1 provides:
- Hand-built Task 1 Academic lessons — six-step guided units focused on a specific language function.
- AI marking of your essays and sentence rewrites against the IELTS Writing Task 1 marking criteria.
- Free supporting guides on each chart type.
We do not provide a guaranteed IELTS band score, and we are not Cambridge English, the British Council or IDP. The AI feedback is a coaching aid, not an official mark.
Your account
To use the Service you need an account. You agree:
- To use a valid email address, and to keep your sign-in credentials confidential.
- To use the Service yourself; you may not share access with others or resell access.
- To be at least 16 years old.
- That you are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
You can close your account at any time from the account settings page.
Acceptable use
When using the Service you agree not to:
- Submit content that is unlawful, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or defamatory.
- Submit content that infringes anyone else's intellectual property or privacy.
- Attempt to circumvent the weekly free quota, the credit gate, the subscription gate, or any other rate limit.
- Scrape, copy or systematically extract material from the Service.
- Probe, scan or test the Service's security beyond what is reasonable to identify a vulnerability in good faith.
We may suspend or close accounts that breach these rules.
Payments and subscriptions
All payments are processed by Stripe. We never see your card number.
- Subscriptions auto-renew at the interval shown in Stripe Checkout until you cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Credits are purchased in batches and do not expire. One credit unlocks one AI-graded lesson.
- A weekly free quota is available without payment, subject to fair use.
- Prices are shown in pounds sterling unless stated. Taxes, where applicable, are shown at checkout.
For refund terms see our Refund Policy.
AI feedback — what it is and isn't
The AI marking produced by the Service is generated by a large language model. It is calibrated to the IELTS Writing Task 1 criteria but it is not produced by, or endorsed by, any official IELTS body. The marks and comments are a coaching aid only. You should treat them as informed practice feedback, not a guaranteed exam outcome.
Intellectual property
- The lessons, target language banks, sample answers, guides, marking criteria interpretations, code and design of the Service are owned by Gavin Reid.
- The essays and sentence rewrites you submit remain yours. You grant us a limited licence to process them in order to provide the Service (including sending them to OpenAI for marking, as described in the Privacy Policy).
- You may not reproduce or republish any portion of the Service's content without permission.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep the Service available but we don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may modify, suspend or discontinue features. If a material change reduces the value of a subscription you've already paid for, we will offer a fair pro-rata refund of the remainder.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under UK law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account for material breach of these Terms. You can close your account at any time. Termination doesn't affect rights that have already accrued.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that consumers may also bring proceedings in the courts of their country of residence as required by law.
Changes to these Terms
If we change these Terms we will update the "last updated" date at the top of the page. Material changes will be flagged to active subscribers by email.
